Consultation has concluded
About the project
The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with Mesa County School District #51 to gather input from the community about the grass play yard adjacent to the playground at Chipeta Elementary School. During the school year, this grass play area is used heavily by children who attend Chipeta Elementary School. In the evenings, on weekends, and during the summer, the play yard doubles as a public park that is also used by the community, Parks and Recreation Summer Camp, and the Eureka Science Center. Due to its popularity, the grass play yard adjacent to the playground is nearly impossible to maintain and must be replanted each year.
Community Input
The City and District #51 received a grant from the Colorado Health Foundation to address the sometimes muddy and often hard-packed play yard. Data collected from the survey will be reviewed by city staff.
