Community Recreation Center

Thank you to the Community Recreation Center funders: GJ residents and visitors via sales tax, the Department of Local Affairs, and St. Mary's.

2026:
The Community Recreation Center is expected to open to the public in late 2026. Memberships will go on sale June 8, 2026. Please visit the Community Recreation Center Website for more information about the facility.
2025:
The City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation invited residents to help shape the identity of the new Community Recreation Center through an online survey and a community meeting. The survey gathered input on naming and visual style. On April 1, 2025, community members attended an interactive meeting at the Lincoln Park Barn, where they received project updates, shared feedback on branding elements, and explored ways to stay involved, including signing up for future construction tours. View a live recording of the presentation below.
A groundbreaking event for the new facility was held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Matchett Park.
City Council adopted the final plan in November, 2022. This became the basis for an April 2023 ballot initiative approved by voters that included a 0.14% sales tax increase and the debt necessary to make the facility a reality. Community engagement over the course of several decades, including meetings, presentations, focus groups, and opportunities for input, has resulted in the final design of the new Community Recreation Center.
Barker Rinker Seacat, the lead architect, headed up the design team that included many local engineers and architects. The firm was selected after a Request for Proposals (RFP) was distributed in 2023. The group used the concept design from the 2022 CRC plan as the basis for design, incorporating the public feedback provided over the years. Following the public engagement session last fall, the design is complete and will be presented to the community on April 30, 2024.
The other important aspect of the project is the process of identifying the Construction Manager/General Contractor, which was conducted through another RFP, resulting in the selection of FCI. FCI will provide cost estimating to keep the project on budget, they will manage the groundbreaking this summer, and they will oversee approximately two years of construction. The approximate grand opening of the Grand Junction Community Recreation Center is scheduled for late 2026.
