Hawthorne Park is one of the City’s four original historic parks and the City is seeking public input on how to potentially make improvements. This is one of the priorities designated in the City's Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan for the renovation and improvement of older neighborhood and community parks.

Here are details of the current park.

2011 Parks Inventory

Earlier this spring, a proposal to build a bike pump track at Hawthorne was not approved by City Council based on concerns expressed by neighbors. The City is seeking to better understand what the community wants to see at this historic location through a public process that includes an online survey. Improvements might include potentially replacing the playground that is at the end of its useful life. It was installed in 1998 and 25 years is typically the length of time playground equipment lasts.

Recommendations will be developed from the results of input gathered through this public process that will be presented to City Council for consideration. It is expected any funding for improvements to Hawthorne Park will be considered as a part of the 2025 budget process.
