In regards to cone and sign at intersection of 14th and White: It's a very bitter pill to swallow for someone who has expressed concern to get something done to improve this INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION.
The mere fact that the cone and sign went up is another indication that there is a complete lack of comprehension on the part of the transportation plan organizers on how dangerous this intersection is along with the dangerous crosswalk.
Any additional complexities such as a parking spot for micro mobility to the transportation system at the intersection of 14th and White is
Just. Completely. Crazy.
There have been multiple wrecks here including a recent rollover accident. Yes, a ROLLOVER accident. The speed limit is 30 MPH. They took out the crosswalk sign and a tree at my neighbors house. You take your life into your own hands most times you use the crosswalk (which I did all the time to get to Lincoln Park with my dog from White Ave). Most drivers go above the speed limit. Many well above the speed limit. The viewshed from the crosswalk looking to the east is limited due to the fact that Grand takes a swerve and cars come careening down from the east and don't see people. ETC ETC ETC
I've written numerous emails more lengthy than this with many more details, and my my neighbors too, to have something done to mitigate the danger, including anything to slow down cars and blinking lights with the buttons. I have requested to be on the contact list for East Grand Ave. danger mitigation (East Gunnison too including Lincoln Park) and have not been contacted. There have been no group emails. No newsletters. No updates.
I have been generally supportive of the micro mobility project. I would never use one due to the danger (I think they should be required to wear helmets, I work with Traumatic Brain Injury patients) and I use my bike downtown. But now I am hesitant to support it until the City planners become more organized, respond to my emails and my neighbors emails and concerns, start an East Grand Ave and East Gunnison Ave safety mitigation plan and make an effort to communicate with all of us who are trying to communicate to the City about this.
And above all else, all of those in Engage GJ need to comprehend that we have a huge problem here and someone is going to get killed one of these days and adding a scooter parking zone here is an absolutely a dangerous idea for riders and quite frankly, the least of our priorities for transportation at this intersection.
This lengthy letter is written with respect to all of the pedestrians and cyclists who have been killed or injured in Mesa county by vehicles.
Sincerely,
Cynthia and Luna
