Plan Adoption
On July 3, Grand Junction City Council adopted the Sustainability and Adaptation Plan (SAP) that will guide the City's ongoing efforts in resource stewardship and prepare for the healthy future of our community, economy, and environment. You can see the final version of the Plan under the "Documents" tab on the right side of this page.
Thank you to the community members, local businesses, community-based organizations, nonprofits, and City staff who participated in the focus groups, steering committee, and technical working groups that brought this Plan together.
About the Plan
As the largest city in the region, at the confluence of the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers, and set among the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa and Book Cliffs, Grand Junction serves an essential role at the intersection of the natural and urban interface to lead the Western Slope in sustainable and resiliency best practices. The recent curbside recycling programs, EV readiness plan, urban forestry program, housing needs assessment, and greenhouse gas inventory set a strong foundation for this effort and demonstrate the City’s vision to serve as a resource management and sustainability leader.
The Sustainability and Adaptation Plan for the City of Grand Junction provides an adaptable, yet action-oriented long-range guide to the future of the city.The Plan was developed using community input and includes 95 strategies in six focus areas: built environment, climate resilience, energy stewardship, waste management, water conservation, and city leadership.
